Hello, and thanks for your interest in the Environmental
Protection Agency.
Since its creation in 1970, the EPA's mission has been to
protect human health and to safe guard the natural environment.
The EPA works to reduce pollution through a variety of research,
monitoring, standard setting and enforcement activity.

Whether
this is your first contact with the EPA or you've already
spoken with us by phone, this video will provide you with
important information about the EPA and the process of participating
as a subject in EPA studies. Our studies provide critical
data that contribute to the health and environmental protection
of all people. Your involvement in our work is important.

The
process begins by placing a call to the recruitment office
at our Human Studies facility in Chapel Hill. You'll be
asked a variety of questions about your general health.
This call should take 5 to 10 minutes. You should know that
based on study requirements, we have a need for a variety
of volunteer populations including young people, senior
citizens, people with chronic lung disease and asthmatics.

Next
you'll be given directions to our facility and parking information.
You'll be asked to come in to complete a medical history
and a personality inventory. This standardized personality
test is used only to help identify people whose participation
might increase mental stress during study experiments. You
can expect this visit to last about two hours. If all goes
well, you'll be scheduled to return soon for a free physical
exam, additional medical history and blood drawing which
generally takes an hour to an hour and a half. Afterwards,
you will receive a nominal fee for completing the office
screening and physical. |
